Tracking Ticks,
Protecting Communities
An Australian First:
Tick-Focused Citizen Science Project
Ticks and tick-borne diseases represent an under-recognised threat to public health in Australia. Significant gaps remain in national tick surveillance and understanding of their role in human disease transmission.
The Tick Science Alliance is a collaborative citizen science initiative dedicated to improving knowledge of Australian ticks through systematic data collection, research, and community engagement.
“Australia is home to 73 different tick species, most of which don’t occur anywhere else in the world!”
Science + Community
A collaboration between leading scientists, including Dr Mackenzie Kwak, Dr Leona Gilbert, Dr Stephen Croucher, TICNA (Tick-borne Illness Community Network Australia) and LDAA (Lyme Disease Association of Australia) to contribute to research, education, and tick-borne disease prevention.
“Significantly, the tick fauna of all states in Australia have potential to transmit new and emerging pathogens of humans”
